My God, a young man. I can say that because i've outlived him by two years. I can't think of a more fastidiously perfect comic book than the Rocketeer. A victim of it's own success I guess. Huge reaction that guarantees a movie so Dave Stevens gets to retire from comic books. Wow. That is really out of the Blue. Buncake would have been perfect for the movie.
Yeah, Stevens was a perfectionist and it showed in his work... there could be years in-between issues, but all was forgiven when laid eyes on the final product. Absolutly beautiful work... the only artist who holds a candle to him alive today is Mark Schultz.
I saw his name as the colorist on a lot of comics in the years since and I've always wondered if that was THE Dave Stevens who was doing that work.
Had no idea he was ill. I love his work and agree nobody but Mark Shultz exhibits the same skill and craft. I managed to get one of the few Rocketeer issues that came out after the movie. The artwork was amazing.
