Kaiju Later, A Doodle for Tues

I'll do a more involved Kaiju study for the DVD contest by this weekend. Here's a doodle I did this morning at work

  2. Taupe? Teal? Periwinkle?

I like the little details like the type of coat this guy has. A story in a picture.

  3. My hair is just regular brownish cool now. With about 1/16 inch of "frost " left over on the top. I get some looks from people which I interpret as them pondering "Is that guy famous?"

  4. Shades man! Ya gotta wear the shades inside!! That will definitely send you over the "Star" meter. Haha!

  5. Like Rick, the jacket caught my eye too for some reason. Amidst all the great fantasy that appears on this blog, sometimes little realistic details like that end up being the most interesting things!

  6. Among all the other accolades, I really dig the compostion on this piece.

My eye travels in style from the head where the highest contast is (against that lovely tone in the background) down the dark upper shoulder part of the jacket to the gun and dark forearm supporting it. Then it's natural to move down to the right arm up and up again.

And yet one of MY favorite parts is the casual way you indicated the pants and wrinkles.

Ken Goldman would always say how the great masters would suggest certain parts of the figure in a cavalier way, but in also a convincingly way, to let the viewer know that the lightly touched areas could have been perfectly finished out if the artist had wanted to.

You capture that same feeling here.

  7. EL-MO,

I want to second all the praise that's been dished, and salt it with this little observation: no one combines innocent deportment with sinister subject-matter quite like you. The youth with the silly haircut, an awkward sort just coming-of-age, his thick mitts fingering a shotgun, his soul evaporating before our eyes. Love it!
