Things of note

Click on the title of this post to take you to the Apple Trailer website.  There are a couple of items of note... one is that there are a series of popular films being shown at the locations they take place at, such as San Francisco for Dirty Harry and Devil's Tower for Close Encounters.  That's all well and good, but what I thought might be of interest to this group are the poster designs for these showings... have a look at these graphic orange, black and white images... they are pretty cool in a retro way.

Also, there is a trailer for a Sinbad film that looks very unusual... as though Ray Harryhausen had a son who is carrying on the Dynamation tradition for a new generation.  Not sure what to make of it, but it certainly doesn't look like every other Hollywood production (Bollywood, perhaps?).

DC Universe Online MMO Trailer

Click on the title to see the advertising trailer for our game, DCU Online, coming out late this year. It doesn't show actual gameplay, but it's still kind of cool to watch. It was shown at Comic-Con this year and it tells the backstory to the game. The game's graphics ARE pretty nice though. The posted picture to the left IS a real in-game shot.

THOR-Click Title for Con Trailer

I tried to embed a link to the extended Comic Con trailer of Thor. It wouldmn't work. I think it breaks because it's programmed to run an Ad first.

Click Title to see it.

Is Comic Con a dead duck for the future?

This was from IO9 Comic Con "Losers" list.

"Sorry, but it's true. Every year, people talk about how Hollywood has taken over Comic Con, but this year it was patently true. And the "Big Two" comic book companies weren't even trying — Marvel and DC had no big announcements at SDCC this year, so there was no buzz about what's next for the Marvel and DC universes. Everywhere we went on the floor, we heard comics publishers and retailers complaining about weak sales, because comics were losing out to toys, video games and movie merchandising. The only time you heard people expressing excitement for superheroes was in reference to their movie incarnations. This may have benefited Oni Press and Image, as we mentioned above, but it didn't seem to translate to interest in the Green Lantern comic book. At our io9 panel, Douglas Wolk asked how many people liked the Iron Man movie, and everyone raised their hands. Then Wolk asked how many people read the stupendously awesome Iron Man comic lately, and most of the hands went down."

I Only Bought One Thing!

I saw many things that I wanted but was unable to justify spending the money. I got away with only buying a $15.00 volume of Little Lulu reprints from the Bud Plant booth. What did everyone else buy -- or sell -- or see, or feel or touch or taste or smell for that matter?

Hey guys, been awhile

Been 18 months of scraping by without a full time job, but today I did get a call from my old employer that they had several months of contract work I could do. So it looks like I'll be doing that for a bit to keep going, + ebay sales etc that I've had to do to get by. Comic Con next week, Oh joy!

also, I came across this too.

T-Shirt Lineup for 2010 San Diego Comic Con

Just so you all know, here is the T-shirt lineup for the 2010 Comic Con International. There will also be a version of The Fist, a character do-developed by Johnny B. Gerardy and Leo Fong, so look for that also! While there may be additional versions at the show, based on the time remaining to the show, don't count on it.

Sorry ... I don't know how to push this down below the Con post ... HELP!!

Scott Benefiel is looking for work so he can eat food.

Hey guys. As of June 30th I am no longer working for High Moon Studios. Activision, in all of their wisdom, decided to make cuts across the board to all of their developers and I was one of the unfortunates who got let go. Great. High Moon wanted to keep me but they had no say in the matter. So now I'm going to be pro-actively looking for a new space to make fellow employees rue my presence! I'd like to stay in the video game field and in San Diego, but I'll go where the work takes me, be it in video games, TV and film storyboarding, animation... whatever. Anybody know of any leads? (Tom Carroll, any possibilities over at Rockstar?)

Anyways, it's unfortunate, I really loved High Moon. If anyone has any ideas or direction I'd love to hear from you. I'm putting together my resume as well as a webpage of portfolio work, I'll post a link soon.

Thanks! Gotta go hit the bricks.
