There is something very natural about having a big rusty robot on an old farm… it’s like a big rusting tractor our in a field. And the goat is very nicely done as well.
Also, I wanted to mention that I’ve had a chance to spend some quality time with Idle Hands… you drawings all have really interesting stories to tell. They make me ask a lot of questions about the subjects of your drawings… I want to know more about these folks. When I sit down to draw something out of my head I always want to create that sense of depth of character and situation that you seem to do so effortlessly. It’s almost as though rather than inventing interesting things to draw you are reporting on actual people and events. I don’t know if this is making any sense… ultimately I just want to say that it is always fun to look at your drawings because they have a sincerity that is rare in the sort of illustrations that we are all fans of.
Jeff, Marty hasn't answered my email. He may be in Italy for all I know. I still haven't seen Beowulf. If he's lurking out there he needs to get in touch.
Your technique is awesome Ellis, and your imagery wonderful; very inspiring.
