TAG Dinner Poll

Before everyone gets busy during Con week I just want to get an updated idea of who's coming over Saturday. So far I have Rick and Family, Tom Carroll and Family, Ellis, Jim, Kali and Marty for sure.

Marty, is Blair coming too? Jim, is Henry going to come? Ellis, do you know for sure if Scott is coming (late)? Jeff must be very busy. Has anyone talked to him? And how about Brent Anderson? Any other Taggers coming into town?

Marty, I have a Con pass for you. I'm taking off Thursday and Friday of next week, so e-mail me at home or post on the TAG board to get ahold of me.

Tomorrow at 9:30 SOE is taking us to see the Batman movie. I'll post all the spoilers here after lunch.

  1. My dislike for companies that take their employees to cool movies is growing by leaps and bounds. The last movie Rockstar took us to was Ghost Rider. I'm still trying to Brillo that one out of my head ... grrrr.

  2. The food photos are getting better and better!

I sent a message directly to Brent, including your email address.

  3. I'm in. Henry will get back to me tomorrow on his answer.

  4. Tell us if the Joker dies. And if Nicholson's was better.

This party is headed for plus one trouble. We need to have a cover for all this chow.

  5. The food photos may be getting better and better, but that's just a lure. We are actually thinking of serving saltines and a watery gruel for dinner.

  6. Hey all, sorry I haven't had much time on the blog. I reallly haven't had any drawing time (in which I would check the internets). I've been in meetings most of the day and only enough time to check the work e-mails. Yes I would love to come to dinner and also bring the family too. Tom do you have a cat?? My wife is allergic. But if I remember correctly, last year we spent most of it outside. I can't wait. I'll probably see you on the Con floor before the event. Tom what is your address again??

  7. Surprise. I will be there along with my wife, Hiromi! See you guys in a little over a week!

  8. Whoo Hoo! See you there, Surly!

  9. Jeff and Ronnie,
Great to hear that you are coming. Drop me an e-mail at tomandpatty@cox.net and I'll send you directions to my place. How many kids do you have again Jeff? And no, we don't have a cat. I'm allergic too.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Well, since I'm allergic too, I suppose I ought to come.

    ReplyDelete
  11. ... but only if I can bring a side dish or something.

  12. Jim, what makes you think I'm ANTI-cat? I happen to be allergic to onions, too, yet I eat them all the time. YuMmmm ...

  13. Howdy Chilluns! I definitely want to come but at this time I completely don't know what my schedule is going to be like. Con time is always a mess with friends, editors, and felons like Ellis in town so I never know what the deuce is up. As we get closer I'll let someone know. By the way I'll be in Artist's Alley again. I'll be in row FF. Come see me... just don't actually talk to me.

  14. No need to bring anything Beata. How have you been? I think the last time I saw you was when you and Ellis and I all went to Jesse's boxing gym together!

  15. Count Henry in (98% probability). I can barely get him to show up for a movie on time let alone anything else. Amazing that I got him to his wedding on time.

  16. So we went to see Batman this morning. I'll keep my opinion to myself until other people have seen it, except to say that I and all three of the people I had lunch with afterwards felt the same way.

  17. @ Krayonzilla - I'm not anti cat, I'm just anti YOU and your silliness. Oh and throw Scotty Buncake in there for good measure. Bah!

Looks like a great turnout!! I think it's because of the our lovely hosts Tom and Patty!!

  18. I saw Batman. The joker is the best part, next to the script which is very good. It's too long, maybe. It seemed longer every time Blae is speaking while he's Batman. His fake Bass voice took me out of the fantasy every time. Great Bruce Wayne though.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. The Joker makes it great.

  19. Well, now that Ellis has broken the ice, I guess I'll chime in, (no spoilers contained herein; warning - my view will probably lower your expectations).

Heath Ledger IS terrific as the joker; great rest of the cast too. Overall, I thought the movie was a tiresome and unending orgy of mind-numbing explosions, special effects, absurd gadgetry, car-chases and beatings. As usual, it was loaded with too many villains. I had a hard time following the plot. It was humorless and the camera work during the action scenes was frenetic and confusing.

But there were good parts too, and I'm glad I saw it just because; and it was entertaining enough.

So go see it because I'm curious what everyone else will think.

Iron Man was so much better.

  20. I'm with Tom concerning Batman. While I enjoyed the movie (especially since I got to see it for free), it was a pastiche of set-piece scenes and it had no cohesive flow. I'm still trying to piece the plot together. This was one convoluted story.

My main beef with both this and "Batman Begins" is how these movies end. Like the previous film, there is a huge setup for a power-packed climax and the whole enterprise just collapses from being so top-heavy. I guess 'runs out of steam' is a better way to describe it.

Grim, grim and grimmer, Bale is good as Batman but better as Bruce Wayne, where he gets to exude a bit of personality. The fake bass voice irritated me as well, Ellis. Sounded like the 'weirding way' voice from the David Lynch "Dune" movie. Gary Oldman as Gordon is the best thing about this and the previous Batman outing.

Heath Ledger's performance was good, but completely over-hyped. Not trying to disrespect the dead, but there was nothing terribly memorable about his Joker, even though every critic and internet movie talking head is wanting a posthumous Oscar for Ledger. His Joker was just a psycho with bad clown make-up. He's a far cry from the comic book Clown Prince of Crime. Whether he is an improvement over Nicholson's Joker is debatable. I had more fun with Nicholson, to be honest.

Iron Man was a much better movie - probably my favorite comic to film adaption.

  21. Ignoring the Batman thread for a second, TOM, I will be there. Blair would love to come, too, but I'm not sure if she will just yet. It depends on my COn plans.

The first part of my plan is to sneak a badge off of either RICK or yrself--do you still have extras?? I'd love to go Th or Fri. but only if that works for either/both of you guys.

Looking forward very much to seeing everyone.

  22. p.s. I'm sitting in a Starbucks in Medford Oregon right now--"family stuff."

    Good times!

I'm hoping to post the over-hyped comic strip finish while here.

  23. Marty, I could give you an extra pro badge. but you have to be prepared to live the role of CHIP DRYSDALE. Sorry I doidn't come up with anything better for my extra badge privelege

    ReplyDelete
  24. You can be one of my kids' badges, but I don't know if kid badges are a different color or have some other identifying marks. Also, I will need it back for Sat. Otherwise, it's cool with me. Your lovely wife is also welcome to be one of my kids if she likes.

    Rick.

  25. Marty, I'll have a badge for you. I'm going Thursday and Friday. So whatever day is good for you, come on down.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Rick- I would advise you NOT to use a child's badge. It says CHILD across the front and I think it's a different color than the adult. I've seen people thrown out trying to do this.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Good tip, Jeff. I have one for Sue, too. Do they color them pink for girls and blue for boys?

Well, they may actually look at the name sometimes, I suppose.

  28. I was going to ask why Moore wasn't mentioned in the credits, but I just went to Wikipedia and read all about Watchmen, Moore, Moore's life and career, and his ongoing conflict with... many people and institutions.

  29. Alan Moore and Barry Windsor-Smith should form a company together.

  30. Hey guys! Make sure you go on ITunes and check out the "motion comic" version of Watchmen. It's absolutely free. A good friend of mine worked on it with Dave Gibbons as a promotional piece for the upcoming movie. The two of them are basically taking every panel from the graphic novel and animating them in some limited fashion. It's very interesting looking. I think there are 7 parts and the first one is available now to coincide with the Con.

One of these days I'll have to go to the Con again. I think it's been about 8 years.

  31. What Weezner said. Very fun way to re read the Watchmen comic. I like that they could have left the word balloons out but didn't. Once again, something gives me the itch to work on Flash.

Some people were complaining about a amn reading female parts. I guess they never listen to audio books. Darren McGavin did great female voices for Travis McGee books.

  32. Weezner, is your friend Juice Films? i went to the website and it's all under construction. That could be a huge commercial concern. Revisiting 40 years of comics with Flash. I'm curious if they ran "trace bitmap" on the watchmen art so they could get scalable vector art. It looked the same quality big or small window

  33. Hey Ellis,

Yep, Juice is my friend. I can certainly ask Jake how he did everything and maybe put a guest post up here on TAG or something if people are interested in the techniques.

I complained to him a little bit about Laurie's voice sounding like Dr. Girlfriend and Jake said he'd gotten other complaints. Apparently, they hired the book-on-tape guy who does a lot of Cormick McCarthy novels.

  34. Hey Jeff, are you doing any panels to plug your short?

    ReplyDelete
  35. Somehow the phrase "plug your short" could take on a life of its own ... but it's late and I'm a little goofy in the head ... ;-)
