As I'm looking at your duck character I'm remembering how you and I share such an admiration for that great among greats in the comic world: Mr. Carl Barks.
Lots of fun. The gags work. Quite an art form figuring out the sequence on a gag. The top one pays off pretty well when the Duck straightens out and recovers at the sight of cash. The healing power of cash. A universal bit of communication.
Something about the duck the triggered a National Lampoon Magazine set of neurons in my brain. I did a cursory web search and discovered I was remembering Dirty Duck, a parody of Crazy Kat in said magazine in the 70's. Says something about age and the power of water fowl. http://lambiek.net/artists/l/london_bobby.htm
Cool! I have never seen this strip before. Mr. London must be Herriman reincarnated. 'Dirty Duck' is almost line-for-line perfect. Thank you for posting this.
I'm really enjoying them Mr. A, please keep 'em coming!

ReplyDeleteCarl Barks and Walt Kelly are perhaps the best cartoonists to ever draw breath. I can look at Barks and Kelly all day.

ReplyDeleteI just noticed a pretty rank amateur typo on strip number 6. Oh, the shame! I need to fix it.

ReplyDeleteAh yes. Bobby London. I believe he took over Popeye for awhile. Or they tried getting a Popeye revival going. Very talented guy.
