Nearsighted Comics has a home!

Nearsighted Comics now has an online home! Click on the link to go there. I'm posting new strips on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, so check back frequently. I have a decent backlog of strips that I haven't posted there (although I have used them elsewhere), so if I ever get behind and have a fallback plan.

So far I haven't run out of ideas... I feel like it's something I can keep going for a while. Go and visit! I've got a Facebook group for the site as well (http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=357495871237). When I've posted a new cartoon, I'm notifying people in the group and I'm tweeting the fact as well. Go check it out!

  2. Rick, as a guy that perennially reads his copy of the Prehistory of the Far Side cover to cover, I'm stoked by seeing your one panel gag ability.
That book makes you appreciate the art of the gag strip like no other book.
Of course the Tom Racine impetus is there as well. Telling all about the community of cartoonists. Hearing all the talk of the biz and how much satisfaction people get from those personal projects.
I'm going to do it. Tomorrow I will begin a blog with my first proto gag cartoon.
    I want to play.
    Thanks for the inspiration.
Tom Moon would be good at this. I think his brain works in an episodic , scene rendering mode very well.
Of course the master, Buncake. But he's a sequence guy.

  4. I am overjoyed to know that I have inspired you! Tom Racine does get a big thanks for inspiring me and keeping that insperation going with his continuing podcast.

I already have this week's cartoons completed. At this rate, I could do it daily, but I fret about running out of ideas and/or steam, so I'm pacing myself.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

  5. I've already been knocked off my stride as a gag cartoonist. Someone already had the name I thought was perfect for my cartooning sensibilities.

Scroll down and check out the demonic snowman. I think I'll caption a drawing based on a demonic snowman. That will be my first offering . The moment I can come up with another PERFECT blog name.

Check out my first effort. Still a rough. I think I'll ink it in Flash.

  7. Rick: A long overdue and welcome event to have you back doing comic stuff on a regular basis! Inspiring as always. Still quietly contemplating what my own place in that world will be someday when I'm done with video games.

  8. Good for you Rickins! Now you know my own private hell. Come on in, the water is tepid.

Actually it's alot of fun to create a side project that's totally your own, I'm sure you're finding out already how much of a kick you can get from it. Your strip is cool! I did a Far Side-like gag panel cartoon for a long while entitled 'Life on Earth'. The trick is to find the absurd in everything. But if you get stuck just add an ape. You can't go wrong with apes.

Oh, and good luck with the two a week pace. Good Lord man, go easy on yourself.
