Pandora and the Music Genome Project

This has nothing to do with comics or art or movies, but it's cool. This web site will play songs and music based on your musical tastes. You create various "stations" by telling it a particular song or artist that you like, such as "Sting" or "George Gershwin" or "Blue Suede Shoes" and it starts playing songs that are musically similar to your choice.

It doesn't necessarily play the song you request; just things it thinks you will like based on an analysis of your taste. Each time you get to say "Yes, I like that song" or "No, I don't like that one." The more you give it feedback, the better it gets at guessing what kind of music you like. It's a great way to learn about musicians that you may never heard of, but who are playing stuff you want to hear.

Maybe someday they will be able to do this with movies so you won't have to spend $12.00 to find out you've wasted your evening.

WereLion

whipped up a quick sketch as a warm up and did the best version/vision of my WereLion notion to date.

I'm reading a book called Blood Meridian. Anyone else read it? It will be Ridley Scott's next movie. It may be the sort of influence of Blade Runner or Alien but on a Western. EXTREMELY violent. Based on real events of a group commonly called the Glanton Gang. They were basically werewolves as far as murderous behavior went.

Cloverfield

Okay, so I'm up to date on the whole Cloverfield thing... quite the viral marketing campaign. At first it all seemed pretty cool but the more I read about it there seems to be only one consistent fact to know about it... it's all POV of someone's damn video camera. Who's great idea is it to shoot a giant monster movie through the point of view of a hand held camera. So we will spend half the movie being teased with poor glimpses of the monster (which didn't work so well in the American Godzilla movie) and we will spend way too much time hearing about all of the problems of a handful of young New Yorkers.

Like the Transformers movie, this movie will be hung up on underdeveloped young person characters who we will never care about, and probably spend very little time with the monster... and lets face it, the monster is why we will want to go to see this movie in the first place. If this is the same production group we have to thank for I have for the next Star Trek movie (which, I'm lead to beleive, focuses on young versions of Kirk and Spock) then I have even lower expectations than I did before.

On a totally different subject, can someone please take the computers away from Robert Zemeckis! My God, why would you hire a cast like that for Beowulf and not shoot them on a blue screen?! The man must be stopped!

Okay, my rant is over. On the up side, I've really been enjoying the Animation Podcast! Thanks for pointing that out to us, Jeff!

Gotta love those Japanese

Seeing how I had my wallet stolen on that first trip I can understand the reverse situation. But the Japanese love to make their points entertaining. LMAO on this even with the irony.

Here's something you don't see everyday.

From Japan 1933.

Talk Like A Pirate Day

Avast ye landlubbers and bilge rats! Today be "Talk Like a Pirate Day!" Smartly gather ye quills and parchment and post yer salty scribbles or the captain of this vessel,"The Flying Dorfman" will give you a taste of the cap'n's daughter!! Drink up, me hearties! And call whatever you’re drinking grog if you want to. If some prissy pedant purses his lips and protests the word grog can only be used if drinking rum and water, not the Singapore Sling you’re holding, keelhaul him! Arrrrrr!!

Along the Same Lines...

Here's a link to a web site that talks about a cheap 3-D "printer". They use the term "printing" which confuses me a little bit; I guess it "outputs" an actual plastic prototype of your 3-D model for about a dollar per cubic inch - maximum size 5x5x5 inches. So for a mere $125 you could produce a 5x5x5 inch plastic cube! Or maybe a 5 inch diameter sphere! Or maybe something better...

Ellis, I thought of you when I saw this.

Model it in 3D, build it in paper...

Here's a site with software that can take your 3D model and textures and make them into a pattern that you can print out, cut out and paste together! Cool!

I think I'm the victim twice. The profile one is just scarey. I kind of like the full front angle one.

Highlanders

My family went to the Highland Games in Pleasanton this weekend. These sketches are some of the folks I remember seeing there. It was sort of like comic con... a whole lot of folks wearing outfits that they wouldn't be caught dead in any other time.

We also saw Tom M. and Patty this weekend! We had a great visit! Next we will be seeing Ronnie in Oct! Whoo Hoo!
