Which I will instantly snatch up. Bode was a pretty big influence on me. And about a million other people.
GOD. This is embarrassing. Here's me, Probably mid 70s. Trying to be BODE. Such bad writing and attempts at being hip. I did the art on Tracing paper and then "waxed" it , and put it on better board.
I wanted to be like Bode and work for a Men's magazine like Nugget. I think I sent xeroxes to Screw and gave up the idea. No reply from Al Goldstein.
"His career went into a complete STUMP!" Someone just punch me in the face. You can see why i'm so impressed by things like Cork that are actually funny.
What's scary is how firmly my "style" was set and little improved on several areas.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your early work Ellis. It's fascinating to see where your thought processes originated and how they've matured over the years.
ReplyDeleteIf you google "Vaughn Bode" you will find that Puma has a line of Bode-inspired sneakers. Kind of a funny use for the art of someone who seemed the ultimate anti-establishment figure. Kind of like Nike using the Beatles' "Revolution" to sell its shoes. Oh well, I'm not that much of a purist.
ReplyDeleteHey Tom. You and I are the only ones here. I'd wear a pair of the black pums sneakers.
ReplyDeleteAll other TAG members died over the Christmas holidays. Maybe there are one or two left alive, and if we call out their names loudly they will hear us.
ReplyDelete"JIM! TOM C.! SCOTT! RICK! BEATA! MARTY! JEFF! KALI! RONNIE! JOHNNY G.! DEANE! MAURIE! MIKE D.! B.D. MONTAG!"
If no one answers we will know that TAG Online is dead, dead, dead!
TAG Online is not dead. Some of us probably had other things to attend to.
ReplyDeleteI like the Bode sketch on notebook paper, cool!
It’s interesting to see the earlier work of others. I don’t have a lot of art work from my school days.
Ahem, sorry I wasn't around to post but I was at A TAG MEETING! First Tuesday of the month is the TAG North meeting... why weren't YOU there?!
ReplyDeleteAw, I knew TAG wasn't dead. It will never die. I just missed the TAG connection over the holidays when everyone was busy!
ReplyDeleteYeah Rick, wouldn't it be fun to be able to attend TAG meetings in Seattle just by stepping through that trans-dimensional door and into your office?
That would be about the best thing ever. Next time you come up here your stay needs to include the first Tuesday of the Month.
ReplyDeleteAll TAGers are invited to the TAG North meetings. Shoop just missed it by a couple of days.
