Coping with Creative Block

I haven't felt much like drawing lately. For a while I was on a roll, but then I hit a wall. The enthusiasm for what I was working on just sort of left. I thought about forcing myself to go on, but I decided against it. So I gave up on it for now. Instead I thought I'd see if I could break free with some self-administered art therapy. If you ever feel like this, raise your hand; or post a drawing of a raised hand. The desire to create goes away, but not the desire for the desire. Maybe there's a pill you can take for this, like a Viagra for creative block. The inventor of such a thing would make hundreds of dollars. Hundreds!

  1. Heavy Metal quality work Tom. I like the character design work. The little wings and the avian , smooth brow line head of the narrator.

People do worry about their process way too much and it gets in the way of producing personal work.

I bought two copies of Doug Tennapel's POWER UP. One to have, probably get Doug to sign that one at the Con. And the other to crack its spine and splay it wide open pinned to a board with bulldog clips. To look at it in all its hasty glory.

Every time I look at it it says to me, "just do it."

  2. God how I love looking at you drawings, Tom.

I always have the desire to work on projects, just never the steam to see them through. My problem isn't creative block, but creative momentum. Lately I've been wanting to do some sort of webcomic, but I know that I don't have the time/energy/sticktoativeness to create it on regular basis.

I have, however, been able to fill a sketchbook or 2 with random drawings... some good, some not so good. So, I guess that's better than nothing. I'm looking forward to starting a new sketchbook that was made from a childrens book about dinosaurs. I'd love to be thematic about it, but again, I don't think I have it in me to do THAT many dinosaur themed drawings for such a sustained period.

  3. Tom, the new addition doesn't become larger when you click on it. Did you do anything different?

  4. I've noticed that happens sometimes, and I've had to reload the pictures to get it to work. It happened with the third picture about an hour ago, but I have since reloaded it and it works for me now on my end. Maybe try restarting Explorer? If it still doesn't work, let me know and I'll try again.
