Two Tuesdays In a Row!

OK, it's old--but it's up. I'm trying to do what I can to up the tempo of our drawing posts.

(Drawing from a Bernini bust of a celebrity chef, drawn from life. His face is inexcusably too big, but I resisted urge to correct it in PhoSho.)

  1. It may be old but I've never seen it before. It's Marty-rendering at its finest. You're a master at pencil... and ink... and sculpture. Is there no artistic medium you're not well-versed in?

Which celebrity chef is this? He looks really familiar.

  2. I'm glad you're trying to up the post tempo. I need to do my part I know. But I'm still in the midst of sorting, bagging and boarding my entire comic book collection and I'm hooked on it.

(Just kidding about the chef comment.)

  3. Photoshop would be for the next step of digitally painting into and making it a color piece. I may do that with one of my figure studies today.

This is great. Keep posting. I like seeing mastery of the Riley method. It will always elude me.

  4. Cooool piece. Now sculpt it in peanut butter and rice.

  5. Pretty cool... I was going to guess he's some sort of chef...

  6. Buncake, his peanut butter and rice version would no doubt be just as awesome ... perhaps even more so. Marty is truly a master.

I just want to know how he got a cardinal to sit for him.

  7. Oh, I see.
I just re-read your post, Marty.

  8. I don't see a big face. Looks great! I take it this is the redo of the chef's head, not the botched carving where Bernini accidently in haste split Borghese's head in two.

  9. Cardinal? Beata, I think you had better re-re-read Marty's post carefully this time.

  10. Thanks my brethren. I absolutely agree Tom--you need to post more!

Scott, we do need to give this the "Buncake" treatment.

Ron, this is one of those two "identical" busts--both in the Borghese Gallery.

And dang if I can't remember which one it is! (I know I like the first, flawed bust best--I THINK this is that one....sheesh)

  11. 'Chef?' I didn't...wait a minute...

    "--MOON!!!"*

    * roared a la Shatner's "KHAN!"

  12. Who knew the Cardinal was a chef on the side, anyway? You had to have two jobs back then (wait, kind of like today!). ...
